Tuesday, March 29th, 2016

Houston offers an incredible nightlife even if you are on a budget. Whether you are looking for romantic date ideas or you are a night owl searching for the hottest nightlife that starts after midnight, Houston has it all for people of all ages.

Enjoy Theatre for Free

It is not often you find theatre options that do not cost you anything, but at the Miller Outdoor Theatre, you can do just that. This theatre, which is open from March to November thanks to the amazing Houston weather, provides plenty of different types of entertainment from dances to Shakespearean plays to some of your favorite films. On occasion, some shows offer assigned, ticketed seating, but the prices are still affordable. They even allow you to bring your own drinks and picnic, giving you the opportunity to have a wonderful night out for very little money. If you prefer assigned seating, the tickets are available at the Miller Theatre Box Office on the day of the performance between 10:30 AM and 1 PM. Each person is limited to a purchase of four tickets.

Get your Laughs On

Laughing is good for the soul and you will do plenty of it at the Improv Houston. This dinner theatre offers you the best of both worlds – dinner and a show. Tickets range between $12 and $30 for admission, depending on the type of show you wish to see. The lineup includes everything from amateurs to hot name celebrities. The show times vary depending on the day of the week; there are shows that start as early as 7 PM and as late as 11:30 PM. You can see the exact schedule on their website and purchase tickets there as well. If you wish to eat at the theatre, they offer a full menu and full bar, giving you an entire night of entertainment located right in the Marq*E Entertainment Center.

Drink Like an Adult

Bars are a dime a dozen in Houston, but Poison Girl is not your typical crammed wall-to-wall dance floor type bar. This one is more for the “grown up” drinker – the one that enjoys a good glass of whiskey and the comradery of the bar patrons around him. If the whiskey is not enough to entice you, they also have a wide selection of other alcoholic beverages, live music, and a wide array of vintage pinball machines, making this the hotspot for the adults that no longer enjoy the nightclub scene, but enjoy a fun night out with a few grown-up cocktails.

Take it Back Old School

Remember when life was as simple as heading to the local roller rink on a Friday night? Why not relive those memories with a Thursday night at the Dairy Ashford Roller Rink? Thursday nights are adult night, from 8 PM to 10:30 PM. It is only $6 for admission and skate rental combined – if you still own your skates from way back when, it is only $3 admission. Around since the 1970’s, this roller rink brings you back to the day while giving you the opportunity to sneak in some exercise and fun at the same time. Grab a bite to eat at the snack bar and you can really relive those childhood years.

Mystery Theatre with Dessert

Theatre is usually a wonderful time on its own, but when you pair it with incredible dessert, it becomes even better! The Murder by Chocolate Mystery Theatre offers a unique opportunity to go out at night and have some fun and for only $12 to $30 per ticket. The shows, which are family-friendly, offer you the opportunity to just be a spectator or to join in on the fun and maybe even be the murderer. The shows are two hours long and take place in a coffee shop type of setting, with the shows applicable for ages 5 to 100. You can read about each of the three shows they offer online and even book your tickets at that time.

Houston is a great place to have fun at night while not spending a whole lot of money. Whether you prefer the nightlife scene or you are more laid back, preferring theatre or roller skating, there is something for everyone in this great city that millions of people call home.

Bull Breaks Free at Houston Rodeo

Monday, March 8th, 2010

A Bull broke out of a rodeo here in Houston on Sunday. The bull somehow managed to get through a malfunctioning gate.

The bull then slipped out of the Houston rodeo and into the parking lot. A security guard tried to use a taser to incapacitate the bull, but the taser only enraged the bull who then became more agressive.

The bull was finally captured by the rodeo cowboys and brough back in to the stadium. Rodeo officials are reviewing security measures to ensure bulls will not be able to escape in the future.
